Open Your Homes. Open Your Hearts. Become a Foster Parent. To become a foster family, please complete an application. What is required of the foster parents? It all depends on how old the animal is that you are fostering. Kittens and puppies must be brought in for vaccines. Vet visits are on Wednesday afternoons approximately 5 pm. Dogs who have all of their vet work done might not need to come to the shelter. Dogs ready for adoption MUST be brought to the shelter for Saturday adoption days, which are from 11 am to 4 pm, excluding some holiday weekends. Foster parents are not required to stay for those 4 hours, but are welcome to stay to answer questions about the dog. Why do you need foster homes if there are shelters like HTH?Many puppies and kittens are too young for adoption and need a home until they're old enough to be spayed or neutered. Homes are the best place for them because they thrive in family settings. Some dogs and cats also need a break from the shelter. How long are dogs and cats in foster homes?Kittens must be between 10-12 weeks old to be spayed or neutered. If they're very small when they enter a foster home, they could be there for 6-8 weeks. Once a kitten has been spayed or neutered, it resides at the shelter until it is adopted. HTH does not have space to keep dogs at the shelter; therefore, all dogs stay in foster homes until they are adopted. Some dogs are adopted within a month. Do adult dogs and cats need fostering, too?All dogs, whether they are puppies or adults, must be in a foster home. Adult cats are not placed in foster homes. Who pays for care when animals are in foster homes? We do. We provide all food, supplies, and medication at no charge. Though we will provide these supplies to fosters, many like to help offset our costs and buy the supplies themselves. Any donations you make, including the purchase of food, litter, etc. for your foster animals, are 100% tax-deductible. What if I fall in love with my foster animal(s)?It’s happened before! If you decide you want to keep an animal you are fostering, you must go through the regular adoption procedure. To become a foster family, please complete an application . |
