Providing humane, no-kill options for homeless and neglected animals in Middle Tennessee

Volunteers play a vital role within the Happy Tales organization. We are dedicated to our mission of providing humane, no-kill options for homeless and neglected animals in Middle Tennessee. We could not do this without your support and commitment. All those interested in volunteering must be at least 18 years of age and be able to attend a volunteer orientation.

Volunteer Opportunities

Feline Friends This program is designed to help our shy cats become more social. When interacting with the cats, Feline Friends keep a log of the cat’s behavior and any other information that may be relevant. This helps the shelter staff and a potential adopter better understand the cat’s personality. Our Feline Friends’ program operates during business hours, Wednesday/ Friday from 11AM – 4PM, and Saturday from 10AM – 4PM.

Assistant Adoption Counselor, Cats Assistant adoption counselors welcome visitors to the shelter and work with potential adopters to answer questions about the animal and about the adoption process.

Community Outreach and Special Events These volunteers generally enjoy meeting people and interacting with the public at off-site events. A community outreach volunteer helps to educate the community about our mission and explain our special programs. Volunteer opportunities may include animal transport, dog handlers, greeters, silent auction/raffle ticket sales and event planning. Most special events are held on Saturdays and/or during the evening.

Canine Companion Canine Companions are needed on Saturdays during dog adoption hours from 10AM – 4PM. Volunteers help keep the animal suites clean and keep the dogs happy with occasional walks outside. Canine Companions will welcome visitors and answer questions from potential adopters about the animals and the adoption process.
